Did you know that most of the media in America is owned by a handful of large corporations? Does that scare you? Well, it SHOULD! Corporations have special interests and want to protect those interests because it's how they make their money. If they have advertisers that pay big bucks to place ads to sell their widgets, and then a consumer group finds out those widges are dangerous - do you think the big media company will want to pull the ads and loose all that money? NO!

What would Voldemort do? He would continue to sell the widgets and censor anything (such as news, commentary, television shows) that says the widgets are bad. And that, Potter Parody friends, is what is happening to our media these days.

Before Christmas this year the guy that runs the FCC (think Deatheater...) wants to pass a bill that refutes the former laws that large media companies cannot own a newspaper, radio station and tv station in the same market. Imagine if VOLDEMORTE owned all the media in your town. Scary, isn't it? You'll also get free Wizard Rock music. Also, let your senators and representatives know how you feel. Democracy only works when YOU get involved.

UPDATE: The FCC voted 3 to 2 to pass the bill. Congress is outraged as well all of us should be. They will look at this bill in the new year and determine its fate - but most likely, Shrub (ahem) Bush will veto it if it doesn't go his way. Can anyone say - 2008 Election here we come?!
